Can you gift ChatGPT to someone outside the US?
OpenAI’s gift card article says cards are sold and redeemed only in the United States for accounts billed in US dollars. Sending the email abroad does not change that.
Gift credits, per the gifting credits article, also require the recipient’s account to use the same billing currency as the purchase, and availability is limited by launch location.
Practical takeaway
If the person is outside OpenAI’s gift geography, do not buy a ChatGPT gift card and hope. Either:
- Confirm they have a US USD ChatGPT account that can redeem, or
- Send a gift that is not bound to OpenAI’s retail rules.
Brass sells prepaid packs of $10 to $250 you can gift by email or as a card you print. Credits never expire. The recipient spends them across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. US only, 18 and over; an unclaimed gift returns to you after 90 days. Brass gifts are US only as well, so check the recipient’s country before you buy either product.
Still shopping for the holidays? A Brass pack goes by email or as a card you print at home, so it is there the day you give it. Send a pack.
