ChatGPT gift credits explained (claim links)
OpenAI’s gifting credits article describes a second product beside retail gift cards.
How gift credits work
- An eligible personal Free, Go, Plus or Pro account buys a credit amount.
- OpenAI gives the buyer a one-time claim link to email or paste.
- The recipient signs in to an eligible personal account and redeems within 30 days, or the purchase is refunded to the buyer.
- Redeemed credits expire 12 months later.
- Credits pay credit-based features such as Codex and ChatGPT Work, not ordinary chat.
Anyone with the link can claim it, so send it privately. Business and Enterprise workspaces cannot buy or receive these gifts. The recipient’s billing currency must match.
Gift credits vs gift cards
Gift cards fill a USD wallet for subscriptions and related web purchases. Gift credits are a usage balance with a short claim window and a one-year life after redeem. Details for cards are on OpenAI’s gift card page.
Brass sells prepaid packs of $10 to $250 you can gift by email or as a card you print. Credits never expire. The recipient spends them across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. US only, 18 and over; an unclaimed gift returns to you after 90 days.
Still shopping for the holidays? A Brass pack goes by email or as a card you print at home, so it is there the day you give it. Send a pack.
