What a ChatGPT gift card will not pay for
OpenAI’s gift card article is clear about the gaps.
Will not cover
- Subscriptions billed through Apple or Google
- API prepaid billing (different product, different account)
- Accounts billed outside US dollars
- Moving balance to another ChatGPT account after redeem
Easy to confuse
Redeeming a card fills the wallet. Usage credits for Codex and ChatGPT Work are a separate balance. You can spend wallet funds on a credit purchase when checkout offers it, but the card itself does not dump money into usage credits automatically.
If the recipient needs API spend or multi-lab models, buy something built for that instead of a ChatGPT retail card.
Brass sells prepaid packs of $10 to $250 you can gift by email or as a card you print. Credits never expire. The recipient spends them across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. US only, 18 and over; an unclaimed gift returns to you after 90 days.
Still shopping for the holidays? A Brass pack goes by email or as a card you print at home, so it is there the day you give it. Send a pack.
