Claude guest pass vs a real gift

Anthropic’s guest pass article says Pro and Max subscribers can send a limited number of passes that give someone new to paid Claude seven days of Pro, including Claude Code, Cowork and Claude Design.

That is useful. It is not the same as a gift.

How a guest pass behaves

  1. The recipient must enter a payment method.
  2. If they do not cancel, the pass converts to a paid Pro subscription.
  3. It lasts seven days, not a month or a year.
  4. It is meant for people new to paid Claude, not as a general holiday present.

Say that out loud when you send one. Otherwise the person thinks you bought them Claude and later finds a charge.

What a real gift looks like

A real gift has a fixed value, a clear end, and no cancel homework. Claude’s own gift subscriptions did that when they were on sale: a fixed term of Pro or Max, redeemed at claude.ai/gift/redeem, with no credit card required to redeem, per Anthropic’s gifting article. Those gifts are unavailable to buy right now.

Brass sells prepaid packs of $10 to $250 you can gift by email or as a card you print. Credits never expire. The recipient spends them across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. US only, 18 and over; an unclaimed gift returns to you after 90 days.

If you only need a short taste of Claude for a friend, a guest pass is fine. If you want a holiday present that does not renew, buy prepaid credit instead.
