Gift ChatGPT for Christmas without a subscription trap
Christmas gifting through OpenAI has two official paths: retail gift cards and in-product gift credits.
Avoid the trap
The trap is paying for their Plus on your card “for a few months” and forgetting to cancel, or sending a guest-style trial that converts. OpenAI’s gift products are cleaner than shared billing, as long as you read the limits: US USD for cards, 30-day claim window for credits, credits that expire a year after redeem.
Christmas checklist
- Confirm they can redeem in the US on a USD account if you buy a card.
- Prefer email delivery the week of Christmas so the link is not lost in November spam.
- Tell them what the balance will and will not pay for (no Apple-billed plans, no API).
Brass sells prepaid packs of $10 to $250 you can gift by email or as a card you print. Credits never expire. The recipient spends them across Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. US only, 18 and over; an unclaimed gift returns to you after 90 days.
Still shopping for the holidays? A Brass pack goes by email or as a card you print at home, so it is there the day you give it. Send a pack.
